HP's Cheap And Colorful Stream Windows 10 Notebooks Are Perfect Foils For Chromebooks

Google may be lighting up the education market with Chromebooks, but that isn’t stopping Microsoft and its partners from introducing low-cost Windows-based devices in response. This time around, Hewlett-Packard is hoping to raise a few eyebrows with its revamped “Stream” PC lineup.

The new Stream family consists of three models: two notebooks and one convertible. The first offering is the new Stream 11, which as its name implies features an 11.6-inch anti-glare display (1366x768), measures just 18mm thin, and weighs in at 2.57 pounds. It’s powered by an Intel Celeron N3060 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and just 32GB of eMMC storage.

Other features include Intel HD Graphics 400, Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and dual front-facing speakers with DTS Studio Sound. The Stream 11 is also capable of running for up to 10 hours and 45 minutes per charge.

The Stream 14 largely mirrors the specs of its smaller sibling, with the exception of its 14-inch display (the resolution still stands at 1366x768). Its larger frame is slightly thinner (17.8mm) and it weighs just over half a pound more, coming in at 3.17 pounds. Battery life is also exactly the same as the Stream 11.

The most interesting member of the refreshed Stream family, however, is the x360 convertible. The x360 has a 11.6-inch display (1366x768) along with all the same internals as its more traditional siblings. But the x360 has the advantage of including a 360-degree hinge that allows you to use the 2.98-pound convertible as a notebook, tablet, or anything in between.

All three Stream PCs run Windows 10 Home, come with a free year of Office 365 Personal (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access) and 1TB of OneDrive storage. You’ll also receive 60 Skype minutes per month for a year.

The Stream 11 launches on August 24th with a $199 price tag, while the Stream 14 will be available beginning September 7th for $219. Both laptops are available in Aqua Blue, Violet Purple and Snow White. Those who have their eyes on the $249 x360 will get your chance to purchase it in “select regions” next month; it will be available in the three aforementioned colors and in Jack Black (yes, you heard that correctly).
