Let's look at what improvements 3dfx has put into their new baby
and what all the fuss is about with respect to the lack of 32 bit color. Does it really make a difference? These
shots were taken with Hypersnap
DX to ensure proper image capture. 3dfx uses
a special filtering technique when outputting to the display and stores unfiltered raw image data in the frame
buffer. Taking game shots without Hypersnap would result in an image which is not as good as the actual image on
your screen. These are images exactly the
way you'll see them.
However, in an effort to conserve bandwidth for you, we have uploaded JPEGs here. This compression format will
degrade the image somewhat. At the end of the screen shot section, we have included zip files of the original TGAs
taken from Hypersnap. They are a few MBs each in size. The larger versions of the these JPEGs are a few 100K in
size... These are all 1024X768 shots. |

JPEGs don't do the Voodoo3 justice. The compression really adds

There has been a lot of debate on the net about Voodoo3 16Bit/22Bit
Image Quality versus what the TNT2 can do in 32 Bit color. While 32 Bit may look slightly better in certain areas
of gameplay, I was hard pressed to find fault with the Voodoo3's output. It was excellent and gone was the banding
found in previous Voodoo images. For me Voodoo3's image quality was all that I expected it to be and more. It is
great... You will not be disappointed. |
