Overdrive PC Lives, Under Velocity Micro’s Umbrella

Velocity Micro acquired Overdrive PC a few years ago, and today it relaunched the brand with the Overdrive BigBlock.GTX, a machine designed for high-end performance and looks; indeed, Velocity Micro bills it as an “extreme luxury” system. The BigBlock.GTX is built on an ASUS Rampage Extreme IV motherboard and runs a six-core Intel Core i7 3960X Extreme Edition Processor that has been “Hyperclocked” up to 4.6GHz.

The speedy CPU is complemented nicely by three-way NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680s, 32GB of quad-channel memory, and a pair of 240GB Intel 520 Series SSDs (backed with a 2TB storage drive). There’s a 1500W PSU supplying all those power hungry components, and Windows 7 Ultimate is the OS of choice.


Monster specs and Hyperclocking prowess aside, the Overdrive BigBlock.GTX’s other big selling points are design and support. To those ends, the rig comes wrapped in a black or silver all-aluminum chassis and boasts custom fans and automotive-quality paint jobs, and lifetime US-based phone support comes standard.

Luxurious performance doesn’t come cheap, though; configurations start at $7,999. Maybe we could have it for Christmas, if we’re really good all year, and all the grandparents go in on it with mom and dad?
