LG's 4K E9 And C9 OLED TVs Now Rock NVIDIA G-SYNC Gaming At Up To 77 Inches
LG's 2019 line of high-end OLED televisions is gaining NVIDIA G-SYNC support, which should make for some incredibly immersive gaming experiences. According to LG, its C9 and E9 TVs have been fully certified by NVIDIA to support G-SYNC, which would mark a first in the TV market.
There is no dedicated hardware in the TVs, but NVIDIA's certification process ensures that G-SYNC is supported at up to 120Hz and 1440p resolutions (with 6ms input lag). If you're running 4K content, G-SYNC is locked in at 60 fps (with 13ms input lag). If that wasn't enough, the TVs all support HDR10, Dolby Vision (at 120fps) and HDMI 2.1. Audio formats supported include Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos along with AI algorithms to produce 5.1 virtual surround sound.
LG's OLED TV models that are gaining G-SYNC support include the 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch C9 Series along with the 55-inch and 65-inch E9 Series. LG says that a firmware update to enable G-SYNC compatible support will arrive in the coming weeks for "select markets".
“With NVIDIA G-SYNC adoption, we are showing that OLED TVs have the support and backing of the world’s top gaming hardware brand to make their products look their best," said Sam Kim, SVP of TV product planning for LG. “Gamers will be blown away by the responsiveness and the lifelike visuals on these TVs when playing the latest PC games featuring real-time ray-tracing powered by GeForce," added NVIDIA GeForce head of marketing Matt Wuebbling.
With sizes up to 77 inches, LG's family of OLED TVs are the largest G-SYNC TVs/displays currently available on the market. The previous high watermark was with the Hewlett-Packard Omen X Emperium 65, which is gaming display only with no built-in TV tuner. The Omen X Emperium 65 has dedicated G-SYNC hardware with support for up to 144Hz refresh rates at 4K, and even includes built-in SHIELD TV hardware.
LG also definitely has the pricing advantage, as the 65-inch LG OLED65C9PUA is priced at around $2,500, while the Omen X Emperium 65 is priced at a staggering $4,995.
