Halo: The Master Chief Collection Heads To Steam For PC Gamers

Many a PC gamer has wished the entire Halo collection would come to the PC. Typically the only way to partake in the entire collection is to play them on the Xbox game console, as Microsoft is reluctant to launch the games on PC. Microsoft used the Halo franchise as a way to get players to buy the Xbox, and the franchise was so important to the Xbox that each Xbox One X has a tiny Halo easter egg inside.

Microsoft has finally made PC gamer dreams come true and is launching the entire Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC. Perhaps a bigger surprise than the entire Halo collection coming to the PC is that it can be purchased via the Microsoft Store and Steam. Microsoft thinks it needs the massive reach of Steam to recover the cost of porting a big game collection to the PC platform.

The Steam page for the collection says that the games are "coming soon" offering no specific launch date. Halo: The Master Chief Collection includes Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, the Halo 3: ODST Campaign, and Halo 4. Combined, the collection offers PC gamers 67 campaign missions and over 120 multiplayer maps that include the original Halo Combat Evolved maps and Spartan Ops maps.

Each of the games is built explicitly for PCs with support for mouse and keyboard, and support for up to 4K UHD graphics and HDR. The only PC requirements called out is a minimum of a 64-bit processor and operating system along with a broadband connection. The developer, 343 Industries, says that the games will launch in a staggered fashion to ensure each of them is right. The first to land will be Halo: Reach; pricing and an exact launch date is unknown at this time.
