Gigabyte Launches Two Powerful 4U NVIDIA Tesla GPU Servers For Deep Learning Domination

Gigabyte today announced a couple of new 4U GPU servers for the datacenter, both packed with multiple NVIDIA Tesla GPUs to bring massive parallel computing capabilities to the sector. According to Gigabyte, its new G481-S80 and G481-HA0 offer some of the highest GPU density available in the 4U form factor—the former accommodates eight SXM2 form factor GPUs, such as NVIDIA's Volta-based Tesla V100 or Pascal-based Tesla P100, and the latter packs 10 GPUs.

These new servers also feature NVIDIA's NVLink technology supporting bi-directional communication between GPUs, allowing for higher bandwidth data transfers, more links, and improved scalability. To give an example, a single Tesla V100 GPU can support up to six NVLink links with a signaling rate of 25 gigabytes per second in each direction. Add it all up and you arrive at a whopping 300 GB/s of bandwidth.


Both server racks also feature dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores CPU and up to 205W TDP per socket, and have two dozen DIMM slots supporting 6-channel memory configurations. On the storage front, the G481-S80 features 10 2.5-inch hot swap drive bays in the front, which can support four NVMe drives via U.2, and six drives via SATA/SAS. The G481-HA0, meanwhile, ups the ante with 10 2.5-inch hot swap drive bays available for up to 8 2.5-inch NVMe drives and two 2.5-inch SATA/SAS drives.

This is a timely launch by Gigabyte, one that comes as artificial intelligence digs its hooks into more and more market segments, from fancy mobile phone technologies to applications in self-driving cars.

Gigabyte did not say when these new server racks will be available or how much they cost, though it has product pages for both. That suggests to us they will be available soon.
