Eurocom Alleges NVIDIA GeForce RTX 1080, RTX 1070 Incoming For Gaming Laptops
NVIDIA is flying high on its recent announcement of new GeForce RTX 2000 series graphics cards based on its Turing architecture, with advanced features such as ray tracing capabilities. If performance lives up to the claims, gamers are in for a treat. On the mobile side, nothing was announced, though one laptop vendor may have tipped what NVIDIA has in store.
Eurocom apparently referenced a handful of unannounced mobile GPUs that will purportedly find their way into the company's Sky C series of gaming laptops. They include the GeForce RTX 1080 and 1070, and GeForce GTX 1180 and 1170. What's interesting about the GPU names is that they do not appear to be placeholders.
The folks at Notebookcheck report seeing the GPU names referenced in a recent press release, one that Eurocom put out nearly two full days after NVIDIA unveiled its new round of graphics cards. We have not seen Eurocom's announcement ourselves, but assuming the information is accurate, it's a strong indication that NVIDIA is prepping mobile GPUs based on Turing for a release sooner than later.
What's also interesting is that the GPUs are split between GTX and RTX models. It has been rumored that not all of NVIDIA's new GPUs will support ray tracing, and that it might release lower end variants with its GTX moniker. Eurocom's supposed announcement points to that being the case in mobile as well.
Beyond the GPU intrigue, Eurocom's updated laptops are said to featured Intel's upcoming Core i9-9900K and Core i7-9700K processors. There will be a few different base models, including the 15.6-inch Sky X4C, 17.3-inch Sky X7C, and 17.3-inch Sky X9C, all equipped with LGA 1151 sockets to support desktop chips.
These are essentially desktop replacements. Each system will support up to a whopping 128GB of RAM, so users who want to go whole hog on a laptop configuration will certainly be able to.
