Dell's Refreshed XPS 13 Laptop Gains Intel 10th Gen Hexa-Core Comet Lake Muscle
Intel officially announced the availability of Comet Lake this morning, and the XPS 13 will make use of four of those processors:
- Core i3-10110U
- Core i5-10210U
- Core i7-10510U
- Core i7-10710U
The Core i7-10710U in particular is an intriguing option for customers, as it is Intel's first hexa-core U-Series processor. The new Comet Lake processors provide a healthy performance boost over the preceding Whiskey Lake-powered XPS 13 laptops, with Intel saying that productivity performance can see up to a 45 percent uplift. In addition to the new Comet Lake processors, the XPS 13 also adopts the Killer AX1650 NIC, which features a 2x2 Wi-Fi 6 chipset which offers up to a 3x improvement in network throughput compared to the “old” Killer 1435 802.11ac.
With that being said, there aren't any other notable changes either to the exterior of the XPS 13 or with respect to its other features. And in the case of the XPS 13, that's not exactly a bad thing as it's one of best laptops that we've recently tested.
The XPS 13 is available with a 13.3-inch UltraSharp 4K InfinityEdge Touch display, up to 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and up to a 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD.
Dell says that the new XPS 13 will be available to purchase starting on August 27th (base price is listed at $899), while models equipped with the Core i7-10710U won't arrive until October. Systems will come preloaded with either Windows 10, or in the case of the XPS 13 Developer Edition, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
