Barnes & Noble Likely to Launch a New Nook on Monday

Where there's smoke, there's fire. And where there's Fire, there's Amazon, which is ready to cash in on the tablet frenzy with a $200 Android device of its own. But where's Barnes & Noble? Probably huddled in a board room discussing the upcoming launch of a new Nook device unlike any other, that's where. B&N has begun inviting media and publishing bigwigs to a press event on November 7 (Monday), during which time it's believed the outfit will launch a new tablet device.

"Please join us for a very special announcement," is all the invitation reads, along with the date, location, and RSVP information. Other than that, B&N isn't saying what it has up its sleeve, and there aren't any official leaks that we're aware of.

With Amazon getting ready to launch it's low-cost Kindle Fire tablet and having already released a batch of affordable eReaders, speculation all over the Web is that a new Nook is on the way. According to The Wall Street Journal, the new device -- if in fact there is one -- will "differ significantly" from the Nook Color hybrid eReader/tablet.

The Los Angeles Times seems to agree, but also mentions the possibility that B&N could shake up its Nook Friends social network. Us? If we were gambling, we'd put our money on new hardware.
