Amazon Fire Tablet Sales Tripled, Kindle E-Reader Quadrupled On Black Friday, Fire TV Marked Down To $69

Amazon is killing it this holiday shopping season, or so the online retailer claims. According to Amazon, Black Friday sales of Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets on the company's website have grown by leaps and bounds year-over-year. Specifically, Fire tablet sales were up three-fold on Black Friday compared to last year, while Kindle e-reader sales nearly quadrupled.

"This holiday there are going to be a lot of customers opening up new Amazon devices," said Dave Limp, Senior Vice President, Amazon Devices. "We’re energized by the year over year growth of tablet and e-reader Black Friday sales on Amazon.com, plus the success of the new product categories we’ve launched this year."

Indeed, we took a look at one of Amazon's refreshed tablets for 2014, the Fire HD (check out our review, and stay tuned for an upcoming evaluation of the Fire HDX 8.9). While the entry-level tablet generally underwhelmed us, we can see how its price tag would be appealing to consumers, especially during Black Friday when it was marked down from $139 to just $109.

The ongoing sales aren't over, either. With Cyber Monday upon us, you can still snag the Fire HD 7 for $109, and Amazon tells us that sometime this afternoon its Fire TV set-top box with remote control will be available for $69, down from its regular selling price of $99.
