Acer's Low Cost C7 Chromebook Now Available at Select Retailers

Acer's making it easy to grab a C7 Chromebook in time for the holidays. Initially, the $199 laptop was available via Google Play, BestBuy.com, and in Best Buy stores, but you can now find it at TigerDirect, Newegg, and Staples.com, the company announced today.

"Our customers' enthusiastic response to the Acer C7 Chromebook has encouraged more of our e-tail partners to make them available for purchase online -- just in time for anyone looking for a great holiday gift for a loved one or yourself," said Scott Ledterman, vice president of retail, Acer America. "The extra low price of only $199 is so affordable that customers can even buy them as stocking stuffers for multiple people on their shopping list."

Indeed, we included the C7 Chromebook in our Holiday Gift Guide because of its stellar price tag. Granted, you're not going to play Crysis on this thing, but for a general purpose machine for getting on the web and updating Facebook statuses, it fits the bill quite nicely. Lest we give the wrong impression, it's also a fine laptop for grooving with Google's various services, not just as a glorified social media device. Beyond cloud services, however, you'll want something else.

The 11.6-inch C7 Chromebook ships with an Intel Celeron 847 processor clocked at 1.1GHz (ULV chip based on Sandy Bridge architecture), 2GB of DDR3 memory, 320GB hard drive, 2-in-1 memory card reader, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, 10/100 Ethernet, HDMI output, webcam, three USB 2.0 ports, and a 4-cell battery.
