Square Enix Announces ‘Hitman GO’ Strategy Game For Mobile Devices

Jump for joy, mobile gamers, because Square Enix Montréal is bringing the Hitman experience over to smartphones and tablets (well, sort of). It's called Hitman GO and it's a turn-based strategy game with rendered diorama-style set pieces. Square Enix says you'll have to put a lot of thought into your moves as you navigate fixed spaces on a grid to avoid enemies and take out your target or infiltrate heavily guarded locations.

This is the type of game that's desperately needed on mobile devices, lest we all settle for the typical Flappy Bird fare and/or greedy freemium titles like EA's Dungeon Keeper Mobile that heavily promote in-game purchases. We're not saying good mobile games don't exist, you just have to wade through bunch of bad ones to find them.

Hitman GO

We're crossing our fingers that Hitman GO ends up being a gem. It will be a different gaming experience than the standard Hitman games you're used to, though you will have access to some familiar tools of the trade, such as disguises, distractions, sniper rifles, and even Silverballers.

"We developed the game with a small core team, which allowed us to iterate fast, come up with solutions more easily and embrace a development style that felt very fresh for us," Square Enix explains. "When we pitched this slightly leftfield concept to the team at IOI, they absolutely loved it. Now, Hitman GO is almost ready for launch and you might even read about it online in the coming weeks as we do some testing to make sure it’s all working properly before we launch it globally."

Square Enix hasn't yet announced when Hitman GO will be available and for how much. In the meantime, feel free to tweet your thoughts to @SquareEnixMtl or @Hitman, and/or with us in the comments section below!
