Shared Data Plans Are Coming To Verizon Wireless This Summer

We've heard mention of shared data plans in the past from Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam, who has said shared data plans will become available by the end of the year, but details concerning the actual plan or release date were relatively sparse. During Verizon's first-quarter earnings call yesterday, we learned a little more about the wireless carrier's plans to launch a shared data plan.

Although the exact details concerning the shared data plans are still unknown, Verizon CFO Francis Shammo said Verizon Wireless is planning to launch shared data plans by the middle of the summer, which gives us a slightly more specific time frame than the end of the year. According to Shammo, "…There's going to be other categories that drive the growth of Wireless in the future, as I said, we will be launching our data share plan in mid-summer this year. We believe that, that plan, the way we have it designed, will enable our customers to easily connect other devices to that plan. And I think that as we do more connections, you notice that we did not disclose total connections."

Verizon Wireless hasn't announced pricing for the shared data plans.
