Roku Partners With Hisense And TCL To Offer Roku TV Smart TV Product Line
Up until now, if you wanted to enjoy Roku on your television, you needed to purchased a dedicated set-top box or HDMI dongle. Now you have two more options -- purchase a Hisense or or TLC smart television with built-in Roku support. This is a vision Roku first shared with the public back at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last January, and it's now come to fruition.
"Just like our Roku players, Roku TV offers an exceptional streaming experience filled with endless entertainment choices. But we didn’t just stick a Roku player inside the TV. We enhanced the Roku operating system to power the entire TV experience," Roku CEO Anthony Wood explained in a blog post. "That means we’ve applied our philosophy of simple and powerful across the entire TV – from the home screen to the remote control to picture settings. Combining the Roku OS with our partners expertise in TV hardware design, manufacturing and scale, we’re thrilled to deliver the best Smart TV in the market."
Roku-infused televisions sport a personalized home screen that allows users to place their favorite content front and center, such as the cable TV box, game console, and streaming channels. It eliminates the need to flip through inputs or muck around the menu.
It's a robust system consisting of 1,700 streaming channels containing 200,000 movies and TV episodes. However, Roku is making a concerted effort to make sure it's all easily accessible. For example, Roku TVs come with a simplified remote in which half the buttons of a traditional TV remote have been removed, including the input button.
You can also use your Android, iOS, or Windows Phone smartphone or tablet as a command center. Just download the app and you'll have access to the same buttons on your mobile device as you do on the remote, plus you can cast content to the Roku TV.
Hisense Roku TVs will be available in 40-inch, 48-inch, 50-inch, and 55-inch models starting late September; TCL Roku TVs are available to pre-order now from Amazon in 32-inch, 40-inch, 48-inch, and 55-inch models.
