Nokia and Verizon Announce Nokia Lumia 822 Windows Phone 8 Smartphone

Finnish phone maker Nokia announced today that its Lumia 822 handset will soon be available on Verizon Wireless' network. The Lumia 822 is a Windows Phone 8 device with 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) baked in, making it a natural fit for Big Red, which is quick to point out that it has the largest 4G LTE network in the U.S.

"Bringing the Nokia Lumia 822 to Verizon Wireless allows us to expand our award winning Lumia brand to even more customers here in the United States," said Olivier Puech, President of Nokia Americas. "With the Nokia Lumia 822, first-time smartphone buyers - and those ready to switch - will get high-quality performance on both their device and Verizon Wireless' incredibly fast 4G LTE network."

Nokia's Lumia 822 is a comparatively compact phone that appears to be a carrier-specific version of the Lumia 820. It sports a 4.3-inch display with an 800x480 resolution, dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 8MP rear-facing camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 1.2MP HD front-facing camera for video calls, and Nokia Drive+, a turn-by-turn voice navigation solution.

No word on when the Lumia 822 will launch or for how much, though rumors suggest on or around November 12 for $100.
