Logitech's PowerShell Controller Turns Your iPhone 5 into a Handheld Game Console

Logitech wants to turn your iPhone 5S, iPhone 5, and/or iPod touch (5th generation) into a legitimate mobile gaming platform. In order to do that, Logitech today introduced its PowerShell Controller + Battery accessory. Simply slip your mobile device running iOS 7 into Logitech's accessory just like you would with a standard case and suddenly you have access to console-like controls, including a D-pad, shoulder triggers, and face buttons.

"We designed this controller to deliver a true console-gaming experience on an iOS 7 mobile device," said Ehtisham Rabbani, general manager of the Logitech gaming business. "With gaming so pervasive on the mobile platform — our research shows that 87 percent of iPhone and iPod touch users play games on their device — it's time to revolutionize the experience."

Logitech PowerShell

Logitech says the PowerShell doesn't interfere with access to the power on/off button, volume controls, camera, speakers, headphone jack, or charging. As an added bonus, the PowerShell's 1500 mAh battery increases the battery capacity of your iPhone 5S, iPhone 5, or iPod touch.

As for portability, the PowerShell makes your mobile device longer, but not much wider or thicker. According to Logitech, the PowerShell maintains a profile that fits easily in your pocket or small bag.

In terms of gaming, the controller is compatible with the iOS 7 game controller framework, which includes a long and growing list of supported titles. Some of these include Bastion, Fast & Furious 6: The Game, MetalStorm Aces, Galaxy On Fire 2 HD, and Nitro.

The Logitech PowerShell Controller + Battery is available now for $100 at BestBuy.com and the Apple Online Store.
