LG Unveils First 4K OLED TV, Available In 77 and 65-Inches Of Love
It's too late to lay claim to the first 4K television, however LG Electronics just announced the world's first OLED TV with a 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840x2160). That OLED qualifier makes all the difference in the world, and according to LG, the use of OLED in today's Ultra HD displays will prove a "game changer" in the industry.
There are two models available, both of which sport curved displays. They include the 77-inch 77EG9700 and 65-inch 65EC9700. Both feature LG's proprietary "Four-Color Pixel WRGB" technology. Armed with 33 million sub-pixels, LG says its OLED displays produce richer, brighter, and more natural hues, along with self-lighting pixels that yield deeper blacks and a fast response rate for motion scenes absent of flickering or blurring.
"LG 4K OLED TV is the pinnacle of technological achievement and a new paradigm that will change the dynamics of the next generation TV market," said Hyun-hwoi Ha, president and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company. "As the next evolutionary step in display technology, OLED will play a major role in reshaping our industry. I feel confident when I say that 4K OLED is a bona fide game changer."
Despite being curved, both displays can be mounted to the wall. They also support LG's multi-channel Ultra Surround sound system and boast smart functions built on top of webOS.
LG said it will begin taking pre-orders for both models this week starting in Korea, followed by launches in North Amercia and Europe. No word yet on price.
