Instagram Uploads Surpassed 10 Million on Thanksgiving

For those of you who celebrate the holiday, we hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and extended weekend. It was certainly a busy one for Instagram users, who uploaded more than 10 million photos mentioning Thanksgiving-themed words on Turkey Day, peaking at 226 photo uploads per second. The day broke all Instagram records thus far, the company announced.

"We're thrilled to see people use Instagram to share their holidays. Whether celebrating with friends and family or sharing photos with them halfway across the globe, we’re excited to see the intimacy and immediacy of the Instagram experience bring us all closer together over this holiday season," Instagram stated in a blog post.

Facebook acquired Instagram earlier this years for a cool $1 billion. In doing so, Instagram was able to add 10 million additional users in just a few days, bringing to the total to 40 million back in April 2012. Instagram, if you're in the dark, is a social sharing app that takes perfectly fine looking photos and makes them look, well, old and crappy vintage and retro by applying filters (see above and below).

The total number of photographs uploaded to Instagram broke the 1 billion barrier back in May of this year.
