Droid Does It Again: Ultra, Mini And Maxx Smartphones Coming To Verizon
The Droid name (and that eerie sound whenever you get a notification) has grown quite tightly into Verizon Wireless' entire image. The initial Droid phone was initially billed as the anti-iPhone -- the Android-based smartphone that could do everything your Apple phone couldn't. The Droid legacy has grown and expanded quite a bit since then, and now it's Motorola's turn to issue the latest phones in the series. Some might say that these are the final Motorola smartphones to launch pre-Moto X.
Up first is the 4.3" Motorola Droid Mini. Following the footsteps of Samsung and HTC, the company has seen that there's still demand for new phones at the 4.3" form factor. Calling a 4.3" phone a "miniature" phone is probably a bit of a comedic choice, but these days, we have to confess that it's tough to find a flagship phone with an LCD smaller than 4.7". The Droid Mini will be priced at $99 on a 2-year agreement, and will ship on August 29th. Moreover, it'll boast wireless charging capabilities.
The Droid Ultra is the next on the docket, and is said to be the thinnest 4G LTE smartphone available, measuring 7.18mm, and with a 5-inch HD display. It'll ship in Red and Black, boast a Kevlar-based unibody frame, and will cost $199 on contract when it lands on August 20th.
Bringing up the rear is the Droid to get if you just can't seem to keep your phone charged: it's the Droid Maxx -- the successor to the RAZR Maxx HD. Features wireless charging and a 3500mAh battery that gives users nearly two days of battery life on a single charge, making it the longest lasting 4G LTE smartphone available. This one will cost $299 on contract, and will be out before the end of next month.
Jelly Bean will ship on every single one, enabling Google Now to be an integral part of the experience. In fact, users will be able to awaken their phone by simply stating: "Ok Google Now." (Just make sure you aren't in a car full of Droids, huh?)
