Asus Reveals Ultra-Thin UX Series Notebooks and Eee PC X101 Netbooks

Among the myriad of other products, like the Padfone, Asus has just unveiled and will likely continue to unveil at Computex this week were a pair of exciting ultraportable notebooks and netbooks that are sure to pique the interest of the discerning road-warriors out there. The just announced Asus UX Series ultraportable notebooks prove that thin is most definitely in this year and the upcoming Asus Eee PC X101 reinforces that assertion.

According to Asus, the new UX Series ultraportables have been developed in close cooperation with Intel. The machines are extraordinarily thin, which was made possible through the use of a light aluminum alloy shell with a ‘spun’ finish on its polished surfaces.

The Asus UX Series Notebooks Measure Just 17mm At Their Thickest Point

The upcoming UX series notebooks sport sharp edges, an oversized keyboard and touchpad, as well as reinforced hinges increased durability. Although they measure just 17mm thin at their thickest point, the UX Series will stick pack some impressive components within, including the latest 2nd generation Sandy Bridge Intel Core mobile processors up to the high-end Core i7 and SATA 6Gb/s solid-state drives. The machine will also offer and Instant On feature, which resumes the notebook in seconds. We hope to have more details, including pricing, of the UX Series soon and will hopefully have a full review as soon as machines are available.

Like the UX Series, the new ASUS Eee PC X101 netbook is ultra-thin, measuring just 17.6mm thick and weighing less than 950g. The Eee PC X101 sports a 10.1” screen, near full-sized QWERTY keyboard, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and the latest Intel Atom N435 processor.

The X101H will have mostly the same hardware configuration but will offer a hybrid hard drive and a choice of Windows 7 or MeeGo. Pricing wasn’t clear on that model just yet.
