Asus Preps Qube with Google TV and Transformer All-In-One PC for CES Debut
You better believe Asus intends to make a splash at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, like a rhino jumping off the high-dive. It starts off with a canonball unveiling of the "Asus Qube with Google TV" (just "Qube" from here on out), a square shaped device intended to add Google TV to your high definition television.
The Qube is a rather intriguing device, not just because it represents another product in the second coming of Google TV, but also because it offers both motion control and voice search that integrates Google Play, Chrome, and YouTube in a single compact device.
"Asus has developed the unique Qube interface, which displays functions via a rotating on-screen cube shape. The advanced remote control supports motion sensing for gaming and other applications," Asus explains. "Customers can also control Qube with Google TV from their Android smartphones and tablets using the Mobile Remote app, available through Google Play."
Users who purchase a Qube will receive 50GB of free web storage from Asus, a nice bonus. Unfortunately, no pricing or release info has yet been announced.
Another interesting product Asus intends to trot out at CES is its "Transformer AiO" PC, an all-in-one (AIO) Windows 8 hybrid that pulls double duty as an Android tablet. That's right, this thing packs two different operating systems.
As an AIO desktop, the Transformer AiO features Windows 8 and an extended 18.4-inch, 10-point multi-touch LED-backlit IPS display. It also features an Intel Ivy Bridge processor. The display is the real highlight here, however, as it can be removed and function as a wireless monitor, so you can continue working within Windows 8 as you bounce from room to room.
Alternately, the Transformer AiO also features an NVIDIA Tegra quad-core processor for self-contained use as an Android tablet. Simply press a designated button and it will fire up Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Asus also plans on showcasing a few of its newer products, like the dual-screen Taichi (13.3-inch Windows 8 Ultrabook and 11.6-inch tablet in one), Transformer Book TX300CA (purportedly the world's first convertible Ultrabook), VivoTab Smart Tablet with Windows 8, and the PA249Q ProArt IPS monitor for professionals.
