Apple to Replace Mac Pro Some Time This Quarter
Thinking about picking up a Mac Pro? If you can hold your horses for a bit, you may ride off into the Mac OS X sunset with better hardware than what's available now. That's because Apple is rumored to be replacing its Mac Pro machines sometime later this month, though it's unclear exactly what the Cupertino outfit has in store.
The rumor originates from a source who spoke with Mac Daily News and who apparently has a positive track record when it comes to "Apple product matters." Unfortunately, he or see was unable to say if the replacement would be another tower, a mini-tower, or something else.
Apple updated the Mac Pro line last June with upgraded processor options and more RAM. There are three baseline configurations available, including a quad-core machine starting at $2,499, a 12-core rig with two 6-core Intel Xeon processors starting at $3,799, and a server system that sits in the middle at $2,999. None of those machines sport any SuperSpeed USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt ports, and all three are saddled with SATA 3Gbps for storage chores, all of which represent potential upgrades.
