Apple Limbos, Best Buy Offers iPhone 5C for Free on Contract

Time and again, we bear witness to the fact that if you wait long enough, just about any smartphone will eventually reach the low, low price of free. Such phenomena even applies to iPhone models, the latest example being the iPhone 5C, which Best Buy is offering at no cost to customers who sign up for a two-year service contract with AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon.

The iPhone 5C was never terribly expensive to begin with. Pricing started at $99 (on-contract) when it debuted three months ago, and while that's still the going rate if you purchase it online at Apple, Best Buy's been reducing the price little by little ever since it came out.

If you need a refresher, the iPhone 5C is similar in specs to the iPhone 5, but with a polycarbonate plastic chassis that comes in a variety of color options. It has an Apple A6 SoC comprised of a 1.3GHz dual-core chip and tri-core PowerVR SGX543MP4 graphics clocked at 266MHz, 1GB of RAM, 8MB rear-facing camera, 1.2MP FaceTime camera, and a few other odds and ends.

Best Buy also dropped the price of the iPhone 5S to $125 on-contract with any of the big three wireless carriers. In addition, the electronics retailer will share some of the price saving love with select Android handsets, namely Samsung's Galaxy S4 (free), HTC One ($30), and LG G2 ($50), also on-contract.
