Amazon Shaves $30 Off Price of Original Kindle Fire (Today Only)

Cyber Monday is here, and if you managed to survive the craziness that is Black Friday (or skipped it altogether), this is the time to find some killer deals online. To get you started, here's a heads up that, for today only, Amazon is selling its original Kindle Fire device for $129, a savings of $30 over its normal retail price of $159 (add $15 to remove the sponsored "Special Offers" screensaver).

Amazon Kindle Fire

That's a great price for what still amounts to a capable tablet (see our review for a refresher), and is less than what Amazon was selling refurbished units for earlier in the year. How does it compare to the Kindle Fire HD? Let's have a look at a side-by-side comparison:

Kindle Fire
Kindle Fire HD
 7-inch display
 7-inch display
 LCD  HD LCD
 1024x600  1280x800
 1.2GHz OMAP4430  1.2GHz OMAP4460
 8GB storage  16GB or 32GB storage
 1GB RAM  1GB RAM
 Stereo Speakers  Dolby Audio
 Wi-Fi  Dual-band, dual antenna Wi-Fi

It's worth reminding that Amazon beefed up the original Kindle Fire's internals, giving the 2012 model a faster processor and twice the amount of RAM. Amazon claims performance is improved by 44 percent over the previous iteration.
