AMD Poaches Senior Marketing Manager From NVIDIA [UPDATED}: Or not

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) continues to attract high-level talent from around the industry as it gears up to compete in a new era of computing. The latest person to jump into AMD's talent pool is an old friend of ours, Sean Pelletier, a former HotHardware editor and more recently NVIDIA's Senior Technical Marketing Manager for Windows, Windows RT, and Apple Notebooks.

We had a chance to catch up with Pelletier yesterday, who told us he accepted a position as Technical Marketing Manager at AMD. His focus at first will be on GPU products, which makes perfect sense given his background at NVIDIA.

Pelletier represents another solid hire for AMD, which has been successful in plucking talent from the competition. Pelletier's transition to AMD comes hot the heels of the Sunnyvale chip designer bringing back Raja Koduri, who left AMD in 2009 to go work for Apple. He returned to AMD last month to serve as Corporate Vice President of the company's Visual Computing division.

Prior to Koduri, AMD reached into Intel's talent pool and lifted up John Gustafson, who it hired as a Senior Fellow and Chief Product Architect of its Graphics Business Unit.

We wish Pelletier the best of luck in his new position.

UPDATE: Today, Pelletier posted to Facebook that his move to AMD wasn't happening. His post reads:  Today, I am pleased to announce that I have decided to re-join the team at NVIDIA and will not be joining AMD. In the end, I realized the fit at AMD just wouldn't be the same as it was with the folks I’d been in the trenches with for the last six years. No amount of money and no opportunity is worthwhile if it doesn't feel "right". I can now say with absolute certainty, the right place for me is NVIDIA.

Excited and honored to be back on the winning team!

That's...well, to be frank, this is the first time we've heard of someone prominently joining another company, only to just as prominently not do so. But there you have it, folks.
