3D Systems Pushing 3D Printing Further Into Mainstream With Cubify Sculpt Software

3D printing continues to edge ever closer to the mainstream, and on the heels of 3D Systems’ announcement that Office Depot will carry its Cube and CubeX 3D printers (for $1,299 and $2,499 respectively), the company has released software that should make designing and printing 3D products much easier for the average user.

Cubify Sculpt software is a virtual clay sculpting tool based on 3D Systems’ volumetric CAD engine that allows users to create freeform shapes and intuitively create designs that are ready to print on a 3D printer.

Features include embossing with textures, adding colors with “paint”, simple push and pull sculpting tools, and the ability to import and mash up multiple designs, and it makes use of Cubify Ceramix and Cubify Colorstone. The software supports STL, OBJ, and PLY file formats, and the company is working to integrate Cubify Sculpt into its 3D printers via direct plugins.

Cubify Sculpt costs $129, but you can snag a free 14-day trial if you want to take it for a spin before plopping down your cash.
