One of the more popular all-in-one utilities for quickly gauging system performance is PCMark2002Pro.  This application performs a total of 62 tests to stress and benchmark a system's complete subsystem from CPU and Memory performance to Hard Drive and Bus efficiency.  When the test is complete, a score is given for the three major components of the system; CPU, Memory and Hard Drive.

With CPU and Memory scores, both systems turned in similar scores with the SiS655FX taking a subtle lead with its more aggressive timings.  Ultimately, as the scores show, it's anyone's game at this point.  In this case, the tie breaker lies with the hard drive scores.

When it comes to data transfer across the EIDE channels, the advantage clearly lies with the SiS655FX and its "muTIOL" I/O technology.

Another test we like to run with motherboard reviews is 3DMark2001SE.  While the video card used is irrelevant, the test does reflect a score that a lot if people are quite familiar with as well as helping to access AGP performance.

This time around we have to give the lead to the Intel based motherboard with 1.3% edge which is negligible in the big picture.  Lastly we ran the CPU module 3DMark03 to isolate CPU performance.

Once again, the scores were very close with the Intel 865PE system posting a mere 5 point lead.  Next we'll shift to some real world gaming tests followed by application testing with the Winstones.
