Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport Review

Introduction and Specifications

A few months ago, Samsung released its most-recent flagship phone, the Galaxy S5. In our hands-on review of the Galaxy S5, we were so impressed with the phone that we gave it our Editor’s Choice award. The Galaxy S5 was designed with an active lifestyle in mind as is evidenced by various features including the built-in heart rate monitor and protective shell which is IP67 rated for dust and liquid resistance. For active users who want even more health-related options than the Galaxy S5 offers, Sprint is now offering the Galaxy S5 Sport.

Exclusive to Sprint, the Galaxy S5 Sport was developed as a collaboration between Samsung, Sprint, Under Armour, and MapMyFitness. The Galaxy S5 Sport will serve as the launch pad for Sprint Fit Live, a health and fitness package. This Spark-enabled smartphone also features many of the same features as the Galaxy S5, including S Health and a built-in heart-rate monitor. Samsung’s exclusive Activity Zone app can also be found on the Galaxy S5 Sport.

Sprint is offering the Galaxy S5 Sport in Electric Blue and Cherry Red color options. Both of these options feature a textured casing that makes it easy to hold the phone, even while on the run. The Galaxy S5 Sport also features three hard keys which are designed to be easier to press when you're using the phone during physical activities.

Since the Galaxy S5 Sport is designed with an active lifestyle in mind, Sprint is offering a discount on the Galaxy Gear Fit when purchased with the phone. Until October 14, 2014, you’ll save $50 on the Galaxy Gear Fit, making it $99.99.

Internally, the Galaxy S5 Sport has the same key features as the Galaxy S5, including a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, 16GB of storage, and 2GB of RAM. The phones also have the same 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display (1920x1080) and run on Android 4.4.2, KitKat. If you get really technical, the dimensions of the Galaxy S5 Sport are slightly larger than the Galaxy S5, but we’re betting you won’t notice a couple of millimeters.
