Maingear Rush Review With Radeon R9 295X2 CrossFire
Introduction & Specifications
When we reviewed the Maingear Epic Rush a few months ago, we found its performance jaw-dropping, and thus we expected the same out of its sibling, the Maingear Rush. However, these are different systems with different configurations on board. For instance, they have different CPUs--the Rush we're testing today has a newer, more powerful GPU configuration, and Maingear approached storage on the two quite differently as well.
What both systems definitely do share is high performance and impeccable build quality. The Maingear Rush is a top-shelf system with killer components; there are no compromises here, and no concern for the final bill either.
Is $8,393 a lot for a computer? You betcha. But rigs like these aren’t about price; they’re about what sort of dream machine you can come up with when price is no object and you want nothing but the best.
The Rush rocks a six-core Intel Core i7-4960X (3.6GHz/4GHz Turbo) that Maingear paired with dual AMD Radeon R9 295X2 dual-GPU graphics cards (8GB GDDR5), all of which is liquid cooled. Note that because the Radeon R9 295X2 is actually two GPUs on one card, we effectively have a quad-AMD Crossfire GPU setup running here. There’s 16GB of Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR3-2133 (4x4GB) RAM, an 8x DVD dual layer burner, and 7.1-channel HD audio, and the motherboard of choice is an ASUS ROG Rampage IV Gene.
We noted back in our Maingear Epic Rush review that you could double your SSD storage for around $442 instead of rolling with that system’s 500GB RAID 0 SSD plus 4TB HDD setup, and that’s exactly what we have here with the Maingear Rush. This system we tested has two 500GB Samsung SSDs in RAID 0 for 1TB of total capacity.
The Rush has a 1600 Watt LEPA G Series G1600-MA PSU and enjoys Maingear’s Redline factory overclock for an extra performance boost--that is, beyond what these incredible specs already deliver.
This rig ships with a plethora of accessories. For starters, there’s a large black plastic case binder that holds all of your documentation including a system user manual, manuals for various components, the motherboard manual, a doorknob hanger, and the motherboard driver and Windows 8.1 installation discs. Additionally, there’s a large Maingear mouse pad a sack of goodies that includes a number of screws, a ROG USB cable, a fistful of SATA cables, an SLI bridge that you won’t be needing, and numerous supplemental cables for the PSU.
Maingear's warranty is as solid as the system is pretty and includes "Lifetime Angelic Service Labor and Phone Support" along with a 3-year comprehensive warranty.
