    Fried my MB

Not sure how I did it but I think I fried my Asus A8N32_SLI Deluxe MB this weekend. I was basicly consolidating parts from my comp and my son's computer to make 1 and then was going to give the leftover parts to my buddy for a HTPC. So I ripped everything out of my sons and mine and put everything into his case which consisted of the MB, 2 gigs of corsair ddr500, athlon 64 4000. xfx 8800gts, samsung spinpoint 200, Seasonic 500w and an Asus dvd burner. I changed everything to appropriate settings in my bios and installed windows and all drivers no problem. I started downlaoding the long list of updates for windows and went to bed while it was downloading assuming I could finish when I got up sat morning. When I got up though I walked in and the pc was off. I turned it back on and no post beep and no video but I had lights and fans and activity.

I then went through the process of swapping stuff out to see what the culprit was. Now granted the only real hardware that changed was the HD, GPU, DVD rom and case. well except that I am no longer using the watercooling. So after swapping video cards, ram and cpu I found that when I swapped MB's everyhting worked fine. So I think somehow I fried the MB but I still can't figure out how. I even tried setting it up outside the case even though I didn't think it was groudning out since it was powering on. Now I don't have a MB to give my buddy after he just bought a case and ram cause he was under the impression I was hooking him up with everything else in exchange for a washer and dryer.

    Could be a power problem.

Do you have a extra PSU.

humm, i assume you reset the bios for the air coold chip, the only thing i could think of is that it over heated. Or it took a hit because it was grounded to the case

Sorry to hear about your loss, Nelson. If it was working fine, just updating while you were sleeping, it seems inevitable that it was going to happen anyway. Something on that board just gave out. Perhaps you can still salvage the washer/dryer deal with THIS?

That stinks. There are a bunch of good cheap boards on Newegg as well.

yeah loosing hardware sucks especially when it was $250. not thats it's worth that anymore though but still it's sadSad. I think i will leave it up to my buddy to get a mb. I will still give him a cpu and gpu and ram(assuming that still works). I don't plan on spending money on hardware unless it's going into my new build.

    Re: Fried my MB

I posted it in my watercooling worklog. I was leak testing my new loop and forgot to unplug my PCIe power plug from my gpu. Good thing I just got my girlfriend a 9600gt so I'm using her old 7600gs[:'(]
