10" Eee PC to Be Released Early

It is atypical - and that's being kind - for a tech company to release something early, but here is an example.  According to industry sources quoted by DigiTimes, Asus has decided to release the Eee PC 1000 early.

With Micro-Star International (MSI) expected to officially launch its
10-inch Wind series notebooks and Acer planning to launch an 8.9-inch
Aspire low-cost PC in Europe priced at 299 euros (US$469.49) over the
next few weeks, Asustek Computer has decided to rush forward plans to
launch a 10-inch version Eee PC, according to notebook industry
sources. The Eee PC 1000 is now expect to be launched on June 3 along
with the Eee PC 901 and Asustek is also preparing lower priced versions
of current models, the sources noted.

Ah, competition.  What would we do without it?

Yeah i read this article in re: to just that! Apparently, ASUS is looking to get a jump on HP's new Mini-Note and that upcoming ultra-portable from Acer by launching its second generation 8.9-inch Eee PC early. As such, they'll have to forgo Intel's new Atom processor (shipping in June) and slap in an older-generation dual-core ULV instead. Sources claim that ASUS still plans to go Atom in "later versions of its Eee PCs.
