    New CPU [need some help]

Hello all, this is my first post here and I apoligise in advance if you don't appreciate this post.

I am a student and don't have much money, and have very little PC hardware knowledge :(

I am using an Intel D101GGC motherboard (http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/D101GGC/index.htm) and recently bought this processor Intel Celeron Dual Core Processor E1200 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-194-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=554).

I have just put it in my motherboard but when I turn my PC on it doesn't do anything, I just get a black screen and nothing loads up.

My current CPU is an Intel Celeron 2.8Ghz which I have had for 2 years.

As I said I have very little PC hardware knowledge and I'm thinking it is not compatible with my motherboard? If anyone could tell me why it doesn't work or point me in the right direction as to a CPU or Motherboard that will work (I'm on a budget) I would be very grateful.

    Regards.

That board is indeed very old.  LGA 775 constantly changes.  Your motherboard cannot run the E1200.

A good sub-$100 motherboard aht will work with the E2100:

Of course there are many more and I'm sure other people will suggest good ones too.

    Hello

As Crisis Causer stated, the LGA775 motherboards changed quite a bit. You can't just look at a socket to check for compatibility. For instance, when the Core 2 Duo's were introduced, the VRMs on the motherboard needed to be changed.

I would also recommend that Gigabyte motherboard. It is great for the price and it will allow you to upgrade to the new Wolfdale (dual core) and Yorkfield (quad core) processors later on.

If you think you can’t do something, you’ll never be able to do it. No matter how easy it is.
