Special Open source Linux wireless router firmware

I know that is kind of an old subject, but I found some specialty open source linux firmware that looks really cool.  The reason that I was looking different firmwares is that I have used and played with DD-WRT for a long time now, na d I'm tired of it.  I have also use Tomato, but I wanted to see what else was available.

PacketProtector has a bunch of cool features that you normally only find in Linux firewalls, like Snort intrusion protection, and web anti-virius.  One of the problems though is that this only works with a few routers

Neighbornode I think this is really cool.  Everytime anyone connects to the wireless connection they get dirrected to a message board (like this forum) that can only be accessed through that wireless connection.  It said that it is expaindable to other routers though.  So if you want to share a connection with your neighbors this is a cool way to doit, or if you just want to communicate with your neighbors you cold use it for that.

    Easy Hot Spot

these next  2 are just for creating hotspots, with features that are just for that purpose.

     DD-WRT FTW!!

Hmm, those two look interesting, I think the Packetprotector might work with my router (currently with DD-WRT) might be fun to play with.

    Thanks for the info!

Packet protector is supposed to be like IPCop for embedded devices. Neighbornode sounds very interesting to play with. say leave me a message on my forum and I might give you access..

    There's also Open WRT

There is a possibility that you might brick your router.  I doubt that a Office max router would be compatible.  Usually is Linksys, Buffalo, and Asus routers that work.

I'm over DD-WRT.  I would rather go with tomato or I'm thinking about trying X-WRT.

All of those aforementioned have built in "signal boosting" correct? That is increasing the amerage to the signal output (but being careful not to output too much heat)......

With the DD-WRT, you can increase the power forgot the units, but it is something like 75 stock and I set mine to 110.

Got me an extra 10-15 feet down a hallway and thru some walls.
