    Tweek Q6600, Asus P5E, Gskill 1000mhz

So these are the components I wish to buy for my new computer setup:  (Don't own yet!, buying in a couple weeks) Asking Questions to solify my selection of 2x2G ram and learn a little more about setups and overclocking.. .

    Q6600 1333mhz processor

    ASUS P5E x38 board > http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813131219

--- can run DDR2 1200 and supports up to 1600mhz FSB

Gskill 2x2gb DDR2 1000 memory Only $115!! > http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820231145  < cheap and works well.  Not a big overclocker but at 1000mhz who needs to anyways.. .

--- From reviews it runs stable at posted speeds/settings 5-5-5-15 at 1000mHz at 2.1 volts

What I'm trying to find out is what I'm going to need to shoot for on Overclocking this processor with this memory.  I hear a 1:1 ratio is the best for performance.

So theoretically what should I shoot for in my BIOS settings???  core V and FSB x4??

I'm assuming, stay as low as possible on V-core and get 4x400mhz for 1600mhz total and run the memory at 2x800mhz and maybe try to keep the voltage at stock 2.1 and take the timings down to say 4-4-4-X ???

     Thanks for the help!

    Re: Tweek Q6600, Asus P5E, Gskill 1000mhz

interesting Article that I found which talks about the performance difference b/t different speed DDR2 memory

    http://www.overclockers.com/articles1477/index02.asp

     tests done on this

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
  • eVGA 680i motherboard
  • Mushkin XP2-8000 (4*1Gb) 4-5-4-12 @ 2.3V
  • Iwaki MD-20RLZT, D-Tek FuZion, Chiller, Reservoir
  • PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad
  •  Running my Gskill 1000mhz memory at 800 mhz will only decrease overall performance by 1.1% max.. . But the article never touches on whether getting the magical 1:1 FSB to Mem ratio is key or not.. . From looking at this graph (used 4x1g ram) they don't show speeds of 437.5mhz E6600 at 3500/2cores = 1750MHZper core / 4sticks = 437.5..   2 sticks would help get to 1:1 better buy putting each at 875MHz.  (is this the wrong way to think here?)

quote; " Looking at the table noted above, you can see that buying memory with 4-4-4-N timings would give you a gain of ~0.5% in performance over memory with 5-5-5-N timings. Again, you need to decide value. " unquote

You can keep your Corsair Dominators Newegg.. . I'm goin with GSkill for a 1/3 of the cost.  Of course they are a little bit different in structure but I'm guessing the peformance difference is less than 1% ;-)

nevermind unless you want to chat.. . I'll probably update this thread once I have my system built.

I got my answers here.. . The article even was based off the Q6600, BONUS!

    http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=515316

Looks like I should shoot for 3.0GHZ overclock and memory at a 1:1 at 667Mhz or 2:3 ratio at 1000Mhz.  I'm of course going to try and run 2:3 b/c that is the stock Memory settings and of course a bit faster memory speed but I might try it both ways and do some testing.

Interesting stuff... good find! My divider is 4:5 - 832mhz mem(C4), 1333mhz fsb.

a cpu, a board, some ram, a gfx card, an opty, a hdd and a psu... all in a case
