    Temp questions

Just wondering guys im using everest Ultimate for my temps they seem spot on with the bios readings, away ways on with my question...

So it shows each core temp such as core 0 and core 1, as well as CPU temp. My question is what should i look at as far as temps on the CPU? i assume the CPU temp but the core temp and CPU temp there is about a 9deg c diff between the two of them. And what temp is MCP?

    Temps (E6600 @ 3.28)

    MCP: 52

    Core 1: 48

    Core 2: 50

    CPU: 60

    Mobo: 41

MCP are the power mosfets...they can handle 60-70C. What type of a cpu?

    Re: Temp questions

E6600, I have gotten the temps about 1-2C cooler on each temp with voltage drops.

What voltage are you pushing and what is the "vid" of your e6600?

    Re: Temp questions

The "vid" is the voltage required to reach rated speed, ex. Q6600 @2.4Ghz.

    Re: Temp questions

Run "Core Temp"and see what your processor "vid" is, not your "vcore". Sorry, my fault for not saying "rated speed" that the manufacturer rated it at.

    Re: Temp questions

Which is a standard chip vid, the lower the vid the less volts it takes to achieve its rated speed. I have found that low vid chips tend to overclock better with less volts as you can see in my sig. If you want to push your overclock you will need to raise your vcore and possibly replace your cpu cooler. The Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is an excellent cooler teamed up with MX-2 TIM . Are you supplying any fans to help cool your motherboard and memory?

Sounds like a sweet rig, summertime is tough here too. It is better to have a comfortable OC and maintain the life of the hardware. I have an e6600 that runs WCG (BOINC) 24x7 @3.52Ghz but it is watercooled. It just does not like going any higher and it also has a vid of 1.325.

Have you disabled all the necessary settings in your bios to get you OC as far as possible? Also, a chipset OC also helps if you have everything right but can't go any farther. Just don't bump it up too much. A small increase and then check to see if it's stable with a higher fsb oc. But even at 3.52....fantastic OC.

    Re: Temp questions

This server is a dedicated cruncher so it runs 24x7 @3.52Ghz. It is on a P35-DS3R and runs so well at this speed that I don't get "invalid" results from WCG in their quorum. So I have not tried to push it any further for 24x7 operation. Previously it was on a BadAxe2 that I was very disappointed with and sold off.

Plus it is just a AquaXtreme MP-05SP LE waterblock on a D5 vario with a MCR320 rad. This block was great for single core chips but doesn't perform as well with dual core. Still it runs at 39-40c with both loaded 100%.
