Hewlett Packard Blackbird 002 Gaming System

    Hello Everyone,

After HP's acquisition of Voodoo PC last year, many speculated that the company's entrance into the high-end gaming PC market was imminent.  After all, why else would they have bought Voodoo, right?  But since then, not much has changed.  It seemed as if it was business as usual at both HP and Voodoo.  HP was secretly working on their own gaming PC, however, and its codename was Blackbird.

Despite what you may be thinking, the Blackbird wasn't being designed solely by the newly acquired engineers from Voodoo.  In fact, the Blackbird project was well underway before the acquisition was finalized.  The two did collaborate on a design though, that ultimately became the product we’re featuring on HotHardware today, the Blackbird 002 – a high-end, fully customizable machine that poised to do battle with the best gaming systems the industry has to offer...

The Blackbird system is a work of art IMHO. Makes the fanciest stuff from Alienware, FalconNW, Velocity Micro and even Voodoo themselves pale in comparison. Would I spend $5000 for it probably not. Do I love the design with the sealed water cooling and air flow zones, hell yeah.

HP should sell the enclosure separately.  The response has been awesome - they'd sell of a ton of them.

Depends on the price. I wouldn't pay $500 for a case. $200 maybe.. One thing I really like about the design is its raised quite a bit off the floor which means you could put the computer on the floor in a room with a pile carpet and still get decent airflow.. You can't say that about too many cases. And as I started before the cooling channels are a really great idea..

i would like to see a comparison between the hp blackbird and the dell xps 720 h2c.

i am going to be purchasing a high end gaming system and so far i am going with the dell. I am not confident enough to build my own system.

I think it looks amazing!  Especially that decal on the case!  I think it's about time HP joined the high gaming market.

Nice system.  One question though. Was fear the only game they let you guys run since the game is aged it isnt really cutting edge enough to push the differences in machines. Something more current like bioshock/cod4 or Quake Wars.

    Thanks

Re: Hewlett Packard Blackbird 002 Gaming System

The Blackbirds are nice systems for the normal person who wants a nice system I heard the other day that the entusiast markey is only like 15-18% of all computer users worldwide so I guess the rest have to have someone build em a nice system although I like the custom systems you see around like the one they are doing in the memorial day giveaway I would buy something like that with a truely custom paint job etc if I was going to spend the money rather than a flat black HP system with no customization hell is'nt VOODOO one of the people that first offered case paint jobs and truely different customization offers seems like they'd offer something to make it stand apart as your personal system rather than the same thing you see at your neigbors house for this price.

Im surprised that HP finally got into the high end gaming market. It is I great setup and grat features.Use to you would have to fight to get into a HP but this blackbird is a welcome turn around. Before it take more than 12 sec to get the panel screws out and heaven forbid on some of them if you had to change the Ram! LOL .Like the hinged side panel. Just curious hows the cooling internally is it ample cause its got a lot of goodies in there with a lot of heat. Never thought HP would get there Im impressed.Good article!

I saw the review of the Blackbird on Attack of the Show on G4 and HOLY HELL thats a big SOB! They had it on a table that stood about waist high and that thing was almost as tall as they were! I did like the hinged door and how clean and neat everything was on the inside. I too would buy the case alone.

Damn I like to see it in person just to get a better look. Im a fan of big cases I.ve had some heavy cases they good for modding and hard to destroy if you got some rug rats running around!!

Re: Hewlett Packard Blackbird 002 Gaming System

i actually got to play on these systems and spoke to people both from hp and voodoo. all i have to say is its a nice system, an excellent system but im not liking the case too much, dont get me wrong i like the case but i like voodoo, smooth creations, and xps more. however the inside is waht counts and the black bird delivers. playing on one is an amazing feeling everything runs super smooth no issues
