    C2D E8400 problem on Core #1

mmmmmm I don't seem to be able to overclock too much my E8400 because as soon as I set a voltage (instead of leaving it to Auto) on my BIOS setting orthos starts yelling at me.... I've tryed to set the Vcore to 1.43 but nothing still the same error on my core 1# This is what it sells me. Using CPU #1 Beginning a continuous self-test to check your computer. Press Stop to end this test. Test 1, 800000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M172031 using 8K FFT length. FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4 Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file. Torture Test ran 0 minutes 1 seconds - 1 errors, 0 warnings. Execution halted. My rig is CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.4Ghz Motherboard: ASUS Striker II Formula Ram: 2x1Gb OCZ SLI Edition DDR2 PC-8500 1066 Mhz Hdd: 1x WD Raptor 10k 150Gb 1x Maxtor 160Gb SATA-II 1x Seagate 90Gb IDE PSU: TT Toughpower 750W

Welcome to HotHardware fw_haakon . Could you post your bios settings and use either realtemp or coretemp (your choice) and post your temps for me? We will see whats going on.

Thx for the answer! mmmmm dunno what happens... but if I leave the Vcore to Auto I'll be able to OC without orthos screwing up. Atm I'm at Rated FSB: 1550Mhz Mult: x9 Bus 387,5 Tot: 3847,9 Mhz Memory unlinked @ 1066 5-5-5-15-2T As temperatures I'm having (read from Real Temp TJ max set to 105) Iddle Core 0: 31°C Core 1: 28°C Under Orthos load: 47° on both cores I'm going to try 1560Mhz now... let's cross fingers :D IIf you need more infos I'll happly provide them! thx for the help! Ok i think you are short on vcore at that speed try 1.45-1.475 should get ya stable at 3.8 do not however go over 1.5 on air. A lot of people have hosed that chip with vcore over 1.55 so user beware mileage may vary. Also don't forget we have a HotHardWare Folding Contest going on with some swag up for grabs so be sure to hit the linkage and get in the mix.

    Re: C2D E8400 problem on Core #1

Thanks for the infos warlord! I'm watercooling my E8400 and atm leaving the Vcore setting on auto I'm at 3622Mhz with orthos stable for nearly 9 hours with a max temp of 51°C. As for the folding project as soon as I've finished Ocing my CPU and my 2x GTX260 arrive II'll be subscribing. :) Thanks again for all the help! Vanja
