    Quick question...

Would it be a bad idea putting a GTX280 on an intel chipset (P45) mobo? Bearing in mind I have no desire to pair it up for SLi in the future, it would just be a single card config. I ask because I'm torn between the GTX280 and the HD4870- I would pay the extra cash for the GTX if i knew it wouldn't cause any problems being on an intel chipset- I'm pretty set on the mobo (Asus P5Q-Deluxe). Thoughts?

    Cheers.

I haven't heard a thing that would lead me to believe their would be a compatability issue. I will say however that the HD4870 is a much better buy as it has a bang for the buck value the GTX280 can't touch. The 4870 comes so close to the 280 in some benchmarks and actually wins a couple that the price premium for the 280 looks like a waste.

I used to carry a hammer in my computer tool kit. Just for fixing the packard Bells though.......

I second that if you don't intend to sli then the 4870 is a much better deal.  However  if your sold on the 280 its a solid card as wel.

    Re: Quick question...

Thanks for the comments, guys. I'm still very much in two minds about it- I think I am leaning toward the 4870 though- since I will have enough money left over in the budget for a new HDD, vista premium and a few other goodies- If I went with the 280 I'd be blowing a large portion of the budget on an overpriced card. But it's so damn sexy.....Stick out tongue
