depends on how future proof you want it and you don't have a PSU listed. I am going to be doing this later this summer myself so I have been looking over parts etc as well. I think I would try and drop my price on the case the monitor the MB and see if I could get a 4870 (GDDR5 model only). I will try and put one together meeting your price point and send you a link. I have been building systems for a couple decades now and can usually find some pretty nice deals. Just let me see if I can give you what I'm saying at or under the 1250 price should'nt take more than a couple hours.

Re: My 1200$ Killer machine - aka 'Foundation'

How about spending a little less on the PSU with either one of these:

PC Power & Cooling S75QB (only after the $30 rebate to knock it down to $125)

    or

    Corsair 750TX

and getting a different case like the Antec Three Hundred.

If you think you can’t do something, you’ll never be able to do it. No matter how easy it is.

Hey whats was the outcome of your PC build. I hope my reply helped out. If you need some utilities to keep your awesome new pc. Check out my reply in The is my PC old and best antivirus popup software. The are a linking of the best utilities on the web there all free (unless you wanna make a donation mostly). Re: My 1200$ Killer machine - aka 'Foundation'

    i finished it with this:

    q9450

    asus p5q-e

    Sapphire 4870

all housed in the coolermaster rc690 which I think is a brilliant case. i overclocked the q9450 from 2.66 to 3.2ghz (I have a arctic cooling freezer Xtreme) and have currently got 1.19 cpu vcore.

the core temps are 55 idle (using coretemp- realtemp is 10 less) and max 70 under prime95; max of about 60 whilst playing crysis. do u think thats safe? temps in degrees c.

    cheers

...but not optimum. 70c is kinda high so I'd recommend crankin the fan speed up a bit.

a cpu, a board, some ram, a gfx card, an opty, a hdd and a psu... all in a case

Re: My 1200$ Killer machine - aka 'Foundation'

I agree 70 is up there on a 45nm. On 45nm you don't really want to exceed 65c. if you can keep from it. Long term i reccommend a heatsink change if it where me. I would get the thermalright ultra 120 or thermaltake big typhon  consider case. That cpu has alot more in the tank but your heatsink isn't gonna get it for ya.Don't forget we have a folding cotest and there some stuff up for grabs and time left to win it.

    Fold On!!!!!

Re: My 1200$ Killer machine - aka 'Foundation'

yeah, I appreciate 70c is high, but that is only with prime after a few hours (and if you are a realtemp believer then that is 60c). I dont really want to fork out for another cooler for a modest performance increase for at least a few years I think. my current temps dont reduce the lifespan of the cpu, DO THEY ???????????

Actually, what do you guys think of an idea i have been trialing. basically i replaced one side of my case with really fine cloth which does not let dust in but does let air through, and it decreased my temps by 5c. do you think leaving it like that is a good idea?

I can be superficial sometimes so aesthetically it sounds kinda bunk(no offense), but if it worx then why not I guess. What speed/percentage is your cpu fan running @?

a cpu, a board, some ram, a gfx card, an opty, a hdd and a psu... all in a case
