    Recommend Movies

Since we're all bored, unless your one of the lucky few to go traveling. This thread is here so you can recommend movies you've watched. The idea is to name movies other people haven't seen or might not have seen at least, so no need to recommend Pulp Fiction we've all seen it and know how awesome it is. Don't go overboard name 3-4 tops in each post. Also where appropriate give a little info as who would like it and what its about.

The Iron Giant - Ted Hughes film adaptation. From the guy who directed Ratatouille and The Incredibles.

Six Shooter - Excellent low budget Irish short film. Set on an Iarnrod Eireann train with Brendan Gleeson. If you liked In Bruges you will love this, same director.

Millers Crossing - Coen Brothers movie. Established Irish gangsters versus upcoming Italian gangsters in an unnamed American prohibition era city. You will like if you like No Country for Old Men, Gangs of New York and The Departed.

Whatever you do, DON'T waste your time watching CLOVERFIELD. I love sci-fi, but that movie was the worst-of-the-worst!

WallE - Is an excellent SciFi flick. I was expecting it to be a cutsey Pixar film but it turned out to be a really good scifi film.

3:10 to Yuma - The original B&W version is the one to see, Glen Ford and Van Helfin.

The Quiet Earth - old mid 1980's scifi film, last man on earth type situation like Omega Man or I am Legend, but no albino politicos or vampires, just an experiment gone awry.

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia - great 1970's drama by Sam Peckinpah starring Warren Oates.

Boondock Saints... The best movie you've never heard of. I cannot stress enough that if you liked Pulp Fiction or Resevior Dogs you will love this movie. It's an indie film about two Irish brother's who decide it's their mission to rid Boston of Gangsters. Feature's Billy Conolly and Willem Defoe also.

House of 1,000 corpses... Rob Zombie's  directed this gore masterpiece.  One of both my wife and  I's favorite horror movies.  Two teenage couples traveling across the backwoods of Texas searching for urban legends of serial killers end up as prisoners of a bizarre and sadistic backwater family of serial killers. Plus Sheri Moon Zombie is ridiculously hot, and wears very skimpy clothing. Also check out his sequel The Devil's Rejects.

This is my Sig. There are many like it but this one is mine.

    OIIIIIIIIO

You know what I found to be fascinating about the devil's rejects?  The ending portrays the killers in a way as martyrs.  I think that and house of 1,000 Corpses were pretty good.

WallE is hands down a must see movie.  Definately one great SciFi movie.

If you're in the mood for an old school and down right funny black comedy, then Don't Be A Menace is the movie for you.  I haven't laughed so hard since the first time I saw the original Pink Panther movies.

And my last recommendation is going to be John Q.  It is hands down my favorite movie of all time.  It's a story about healthcare and how a lower class family gets screwed out of treatment for their dying child.  It turns into a hostage movie and well I won't spoil anything else.

    Re: Recommend Movies

Big Trouble in Little China(action/comedy) kinda corny, but good for that reason

Ghost in the Shell(anime) excellent cerebral storyline + great art style & characters

Never Ending Story(children's/fantasy) for children primarily IMO, would be ideal if you have kids

Lost Boys(thriller) sorta sophmoric, but a fun ride over all

Stand by Me(drama/adventure) inspirational story about boyhood friends and an eye opening trek they go on

Plains, Trains & Automobiles(drama/comedy) story of 2 random strangers whose paths cross while traveling

If this list starts to get long/deep enough, maybe a sticky would be in order???

a cpu, a board, some ram, a gfx card, an opty, a hdd and a psu... all in a case

ice - Chinatown is a Roman Polanski film I think, might be the last american film he made before his exile to Europe.

I just saw a great old French film called Rififi last night. Its a crime caper where the perfect crime is planned and executed. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen hands down. great acting, great cinematography, great direction and during the big heist scene no dialogue, the crooks actually know what they're doing and don't need to be talking throughout the crime.

    Re: Recommend Movies

City of God - Film about gang culture in Rio de Janeiro. It's in Portuguese but don't let that put you off. If you liked The Godfather you will like this. Similar themes, vision and calibre of film.

Batman:Gotham Knight - If you can't wait to see Nolan's The Dark Knight, get yourself a copy of this. Best described as Batman's Animatrix.

Pan's Labyrinth - Don't bother reading a description of the film. It would only put you off. Quality Spanish film thats superbly acted. Typical Del Toro film. Insects, nature and magic. If you liked Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia.
