i was thinking of a stratocaster too, im so confused when it comes to choosing a good guitar that i feel more comfortable going high end and knowing its good. if any one can point me at a good 400-600 dollar guitar, ill be quite glad. also if any one has a guitar to sell or trade :-)

Personally I have never liked Strat's. It depends what kind of sound your looking for. Les Paul is has a fat bluesey sound that is great for rock. My favorite guitar is a PRS, followed by Jackson. Jackson is more of a heavy metal sound, but plays amaizing. If you can find a Peavy Wolfgang that is also one of the most amaizing guitars available, but they are very tough to find and expensive if you do.

What are you offering in trade, my wife has been after me to get rid of some of mine for a while. Even though I don't really play anymore I am attached to my guitars and I have to say in order to actually let one go it would have to be an amaizing trade.

This is my Sig. There are many like it but this one is mine.

I was thinking of letting go of my PRS SE22, it's a 1988, the first year they ever made one. I don't think I can let it go for your price/trade range, sorry though. I wish you luck in finding what you are looking for. BTW have you been playing long or are you just starting?

Good dude, It's a hell of a lot of fun!!! I suggest not starting with a super high end guitar for a few reasons. First of all in the begining you don't notice the difference between high and low end, unless you are talking really low end. Try looking into Epiphones over Gibson for the Les Paul. Also if you spend $200 -$300 and decide you don't like it it hurts alot less the $600 or $800, and the differnce in sound quality will be negligible to your ears. When your playing for a year or two then sink money into a Gibson or PRS.

One tip I must offer is pick up a cheap acoustic also with the money you save on the electric, it will help with finger streangth, and deifinatley helps your ear training. Ovation and Ibenez offer some goood low end models for like 1 to 2 hundred.  And get a digital chromatic tuner. this will obviouly help you keep in tune. and you'll start to learn what the strings are supposed to sound like a little faster.
