ATi 4000 family in late June?

    Behind closed doors at Computex

AMD plans to show off its RV770XT and PRO cards at Computex, but it won't launch them until late June.

We've learned that AMD plans a launch and retail /e-tail availability of RV770XT and PRO-based products in the last week of June.

We've told you before that the real retail availability is planned for Q3 2008, and Q3, as you might know, will start on the first day of July. If AMD decided to launch the card at Computex, the retail cards would follow after three weeks and the company doesn’t want that.

    In a week

RV770PRO with GDDR3 has been sampled a few weeks ago and AMD is about to sample RV770XT cards with GDDR5 memory.

As we said before, RV770XT will end up as the faster from two and it has the 512-bit memory support. Naturally, RV770XT is bigger and hotter than its predecessor, the RV670XT, but at the same time it will end up significantly faster.

It will have a bigger cooler and, of course, it supports DirectX 10.1 and it's developed in 55nm. Remember this is a mainstream/performance product and it won’t be that expensive.

    ....

Everyone was saying May at a point, but it looks like this isn't the case.  Here's hoping that it's good priced and good performing - whenever it's released.

I heard of the 4000 family a while back, about a month ago. It looks like it will be a good video card, although I lost my interest in ATI/AMD about 2 years ago when everything just started going downward. They just cannot keep up with Intel and nVidia. Maybe the 3780 X2 was a success, but that is probably the only thing that can beat some of the most powerful nVidia cards. I wonder how this one will perform when it comes out.

amd is ahead of intel in terms of platform, but apart from that intel wins (i love the spider platform, cmon man 4 video cards and ability to mix 38xx cards? you can have a 3870x2 and a 3850 and get 3 way crossfire!!! ) i think amd/ati started to go downhill once the 2900 came out. i was highly expecting a knock out blow to nvidia but it happened to be that nvidia delivered the knock out blow.

Thats so true. I'm not sure but I think the ATI 4000 or 5000 has 35 nm!
