Ah, 2.8GHz easily?  That's good to hear.  Before the contest ended I was thinking about how far I'd like to take the CPU, and 2.8 was the goal.  Heck, this new contest has the same CPU.  If I'm lucky...

i hope you are lucky enough! im sure i can get 3.0ghz easily too. 3.5 was my goal since its watercooler :-p

some... disapointing benchies. 150 fps in counter strike source test (the same as my 7950) and 12061 in 3dmark 06.

something doesnt quite add up. i did a clean install of xp... everything seems fine... any tips?

You're disappointed with that... it's a very good score.

    The CS:S #'s seem a bit off though cuz my 3D score is only 10K+, but CS:S is 204 fps @ 1920 x 1080 maxed.

    What rez u runnin?

a cpu, a board, some ram, a gfx card, an opty, a hdd and a psu... all in a case

You were gone for a bit jtm... I don't have the same rig anymore.

I got frustrated for a minute and sold all the parts to buy a new HDTV. I now have another rig, but it's a bit less powerful than my previous.

     Hi All

That's an excellent build given the price to performance. Well done!

Yeah, I was doing stuff in preparation for my Marriage at that time so I really didn't have the time to spend here. What with our Honeymoon & all I'm just getting back into the swing of things. I didn't think it'd go down to well me taking my ThinkPad on our Honeymoon so it stayed home. Anyway things have settled down now & we've hit our stride, so I'll be back here more often now.

You're gonna get a little lower score than what was on a fresh install.  My booklet thing said 13k 3Dmarks, but I got 12k after installing programs and such.  Oh well.  I haven't done a CS:S test yet, maybe I will.

One thing that irks me is Crossfire only helps in 3Dmark.  In Crysis it lowers the frames by a couple in the benchmarks, and in CoD 4 just from playing it doesn't seem to make any difference.  I'm wondering if that's a side effect of 16x/4x PCI-e's instead of 8x/8x.  I can kind of understand Crysis because I don't have a high resolution, but for CoD 4 I ran 1920x1080 2xAA/16xAF and it didn't make a difference b/w single card and x-fire.  Hmm.  Of course, I have to take off AA cause it kept crashing, bleh.

my booklet said id get a over 15,500, im getting 11034 thats a pretty big difference, especially when overclocked.

my sm 2.0 and 3.0 seem really low, only around 4,500 ea.

edit...  for some reason crossfire is disabled... (checked this via gpu-z) and it consistant with the scores im getting... so any idea how to enable it? since i got no option in ccc.

double edit- further solidifying my idea that the card is only detecting one gpu- ccc, system info all show 1 core, 512mb.

triple edit. reading this thread http://www.overclock.net/ati/314888-3870x2-only-one-core-working-4.html i have come to the really sad conclusion that most likely one core on my card isnt working. so im going to try to clean install vista, since clean installing xp doesnt work. hopefully this will be sorted out as i do not want to wait another month and a half for a replacment card.... (i have no idea why im so unlucky with graphics cards)

    wish me luck.
