    Re: hard drive choosing

15,000 RPM harddrives are the fastest available to commercial consumers, however, you would need a SCSI setup (I believe its a card) for your motherboard... something i'm not familiar with.

The most prevalent "fast" haddrives are 10,000 rpm... mainly WD Raptors... if you look at http://hothardware.com/cs2007/forums/t/38172.aspx, that new HD is about the fastest and most efficient HD out there for a 10,000rpm drive as well as having a large amount of storage capacity.

Another option (which is the standard these days), is to go with a 10,000 rpm 150GB WD HD, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136012 I have two of those and they work very very well... my next step is to put them in Raid 0, but i'm going to wait a while to see if I can get 2 more HDs and do a Raid0+1 setup :)

    How about Solid State Drives?

If you really want to spend the money, get a bunch of them. Wink

But I don't recommend it because they are VERY expensive. Just throwing it out there in case you got the cash and really care about fast drives.

If you think you can’t do something, you’ll never be able to do it. No matter how easy it is.

not worried about it being worth it or not.

so what is the fastest hard drive that i could possibley get?

    Re: hard drive choosing

I find SSD drives to be unreliable these days...

so the fastest primary drive (excluding solid states) is: 15,000 RPM HDs

THIS thread posted a few days ago, in case you missed it. That post was made before the article on the new Velociraptor, and as Willard pointed out, the Velociraptor is the fastest mechanical drive soon to become available. But I still like that I-Ram!
