SLI Under The Microscope: Vista vs. XP

    Hello Everyone,

We thought it might be interesting to see what the numbers looked like for the extreme performance junkies in our midst, running dual-graphics SLI setups with high-end DX10 capable GeForce 8800 graphics cards.  Is SLI mode on Vista still two steps behind in performance in comparison to XP?  In this article we offer a quick-take assessment of NVIDIA's latest ForceWare driver release, running on Windows XP and Windows Vista installations in SLI mode.  NVIDIA seems to have closed the gap a bit and we set out to explore this in some of the most exciting and new game engines on the market.

Re: SLI Under The Microscope: Vista vs. XP

Well I'm running an ATi OC HD 3870+ card in vista 64 and my impression is quite mixed. I don't know if it's the game software or VISTa really because when I do have problems they are not machine killers or anything. Mostly just anomalies like in a certain area in the game world (a specific zone) with 1 char I cannot see tombstones if I die. Although you can see them in my GF's computer which is XP pro DX9. But the wierd part is it seems to be on one char out of 4 that I have played in that zone. So it is quite strange although getting VISTA up and running fluid everywhere else did take me a few days.

I have a buddy that SLi'd two 8800 Ultra's and he couldn't get them to run under Vista in SLi mode. He bought a new SLi bridge, returned the cards for replacements, re-installed Vista and never could get it to work. Installed XP and everything started working fine. Not sure what was going on with that and he isn't about to format and try Vista again.
