    Overclocking e6600 Core 2 Duo

Hello, I want to overclock the FSB of my core 2 duo from 266 to 400 and decrease my multiplier from 9 to 6. Has anyone done anything similar or have an idea what would happen by instinct? Do you think I will need to increase the voltage or not? I am already planning on building a liquid cooling system for it. If anyone knows or has a suggestion, I'd really appreciate it.

Oh, and I have DDR2 800 ram, so that FSB speed won't be a problem.

just wondering with you want to decrease your Mult. yea i think you would need to bump the vcore as well as the fsb voltage as well.

You cant change your multiplier. It is set with the chip you have. Your ability to change your FSB depends on your motherboard. I have a evga 122cknf68ai board. have set my FS B to 1200 or 2.8Mhz. I keep my voltages as low as possible. CPU at 1.375, FSB at 1.4vdc. I have a Zalman9700 on an E6400. Be careful about CPU temperature as you can shorten the life of your CPU. With a good fan you can probably run your FSB up to 1500Mhz or 3Ghz CPU frequency. Run your FSBand ram speed unllinked.Good Luck.

squakmasterb, you say I can't change my multiplier, but there is an option in my bios for that. There's also an option to change memry clock vs. FSB speed ratio. Will my system becopme unstable if i change the multiplier?

Here's what I'm now thinking of doing...

increase FSB from 266 to 320 (to start), keep the multiplier the same (9x) to have a cpu frequency of ~2.9GHz. Then change memory/fsb ratio from auto to 2.5 to keep it at the factory clock of 800. If it's unstable, I will slowly increase the voltage.

My goal is to eventually iincrease FSB to 400. So, what do you think? Oh, and I will get liquid cooling before i try this.

are you going for 3.6ghz? the mult wont affect stability i don't think

RE: Overclocking e6600 Core 2 Duo

my main priority is to get as much FSB speed as I can because I feel like I'm wasting my ddr 800 ram. I want to get the FSB to 400mhz so that it will be as efficient as possible. The only reason I was thinking about reducing the multiplier was cuz I didn't want to kill it.

There is an option in your BIOS to change your multi but your CPU will set it back regardless as it is locked....the BIOS cannot override CPU architecture
