My E6420 and Corsair Dominator Overclock

I had started to talk about this in the "my rig" section as I just built this machine, but I thought it better suited to be posted over here....anyway HERE!

This is just a small start to my tweaking; actually this was done a few weeks ago b4 my mobo crapped on me:

(This I posted yesterday -- 5/25; a day after getting my mobo RMAed and back to me)UPDATE!! I am semi-stable (so far) at 3.4Ghz. Load temps aren't low by any means (66*C) while running in-place FFTs but if I had a nice cold day outside I would definately venture higher....by the way I am at about 30mins now and still stable.

I could boot into Windows @ 3.6Ghz but locked up after about a minute or so.....for now I will be satisfied. I mean I have all my fans all the way up (its not quiet ) and running at around 66* on a semi-warm day; I don't really want to try and put off TOO much more heat as my CPU isn't really happy with anything over 75*

EDIT: I tinkered a little more and booted semi-stable at 3.6Ghz but was getting ~74* (again with in-place FFTs) so I stopped and called it a day.....I guess I could keep going until I just can't boot anymore hmm? Lol, but for now I switched gears and now and working on my DOMINATOR clocks -- its looking good so far (~860mhz and climbing with stock 4-4-4-12 timings) but I will get back to you all.

Yesterday night (5/25) I tightened my RAM as far as it could possibly go. At stock speeds and stock voltages I was actually stable at 4-3-3-10, TRC:14 @2T (I could even bench at 1T). However as I increased speed I obviously lost stability. As far as speed goes, I can get the dominator up to ~900-910mhz on stock timings (4-4-4-12) just fine. I will loosen up the timings a bit to see if it makes a huge difference and see the absolute highest these things will take me

After that I will just find a happy medium between stock 800mhz at 4-3-3-10, 14@2T and 910mhz at 4-4-4-12, 21@2T (and maybe even up to 950mhz at 5-5-5-15 haha)

My E6420 and Corsair Dominator Overclock

Alright, this is about how far the RAM will take me -- 950mhz

I could go all the way to about ~965mhz but windows locks up pretty quick. I tried upping the voltage (2.2V) and everything seemed alright at those speeds so I tried 1000mhz and actually POSTed and started booting into Windows but BSODed pretty quick....haha I don't really want to put more voltage through them so I will say this is my best STABLE bench

Only 2.5 sec. faster than my rig @ 3.0, the fact that you're stable/semi-stable @ almost 3.8 is nice though!

a cpu, a board, some ram, a gfx card, an opty, a hdd and a psu... all in a case

I think thats exactly why SUPERPI isn't too impressive -- it's only SEMI-stable. That and I had my RAM at stock 800mhz. Although 2.5seconds is a lot in the world of superpi....

My E6420 and Corsair Dominator Overclock

Alright I have benched and benched and took into consideration temps and voltages....I think I am done (for the moment) with my OCing -- that is until it isn't summer anymore Anyone have anything that they would like to add, say, or some constructive criticism? I would appreciate it; also I hope anyone with a similiar system this sorta gives you an idea of what you can do

EDIT: By the way, CPU-Z and PC Probe obviously differ in my Vcore and other voltages...for the record I have my Vcore at 1.4V , NB is at 1.4V , and CPU VTT is also at 1.4V

    To ice -- Mwahhahaha

P.S. I got an AC unit in my room -- you think I should put like 1.65V through my Vcore and see if I can break 3.8? haha
