Want a Cheaper PS3? Tough Luck

Most of us probably thought it was in the bag when Sony announced many weeks ago that it was going to lower its PS3 prices in order to stay competitive in the gaming market. However, according to Sony’s president, Ryoji Chubachi, it’s not gonna happen. Currently, the PS3 is still over twice as expensive as its rival, the Nintendo Wii, which has recently outsold PS3s 6 to 1 in Japan. This news is somewhat bewildering since the high price tag of the PS3 has been widely cited as its main downfall, and many analysts had predicted that Sony would soon slash prices. The only enlightenment we are offered in this mystery is that Chubachi declared Sony was “on track to reach its target of a 5% operating margin for the year to March 2008.”
