Verizon Sells More iPhone 4 Units In Two Hours Than Any Other Phone On Launch Day

Wow, that was quick. Very quick. The Verizon iPhone is probably the most highly anticipate smartphone to ever be announced, and that probably has to do with the insane amount of hype surrounding it and the growing displeasure with AT&T. People have been looking for a way to switch over for years, and last month, Apple and Verizon announced that their opportunity was coming soon.

Yesterday, VZW enabled only existing Verizon customers to pre-order the iPhone 4. That means that only current VZW customers (not those that would be switching from AT&T to Verizon) had an opportunity to place a pre-order. Even still, Verizon managed to sell more iPhone 4 units from 3am to 5am than it had sold in any other full day with any other launch phone. That's just crazy.

It's crazy on a number of levels. For one, even existing VZW customers managed to sell out of the pre-order inventory in 2 hours, and crash the servers in the process. Also, this was at 3am - 5am. Who stays up that late to pre-order a phone? Clearly a lot of people stay up that late to pre-order a phone. Furthermore, this is ONLY existing customers. These are people who are already enjoying Verizon's coverage, and simply want a new device. Can you imagine what kind of impact would've been made had non-existing customers been able to order?

We can only imagine the rush that will happen next week as the general on-sale date approaches. If this many Verizon customers want the iPhone 4, just imagine how many Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile customers want Verizon's iPhone 4.

Not I. For I am not about to spend over double what I do a month to get worse service, worse features, and a Crapple device.

Ok the iphone does look pretty, and some of the apps look really cool too. I just dont see how the iphone is that great. I dont like the fact i have to use iTunes to sync it, i dont like how all my contacts arent backed up to my gmail account. I really hope people who bought theirs enjoy it. I will try my best not to be an iHater, though its hard sometimes.

I cant disagree, but i appreciate Apple and their marketing. I really do... they're GREAT!! Heck, even the products arent that good.

All this 'goodness' is the reason why other companies work even harder to come out with better products are lower prices. As a person who doesnt invest in Apple products.... i'm confident in investing in other products from other companies because they're trying their best to be innovative, different and beat apple.

So its a win win for consumers... i'm glad the iphone sold out that fast.... it will make motorola and htc etc try to create a product even better to attract customers.
