Verizon Offers HP's 11.6" DM1 Netbook With Global 3G

Verizon Wireless has been offering netbooks with a 2-year data contract for years now, but most of those netbooks weren't higher-end machines. The carrier's newest netbook is one of HP's nicest, with the Pavilion dm1-2010nr coming with a 1.3GHz AMD Athlon II Neo K325 processor, a 320GB hard drive and a 6-cell battery.

HP also includes an Imprint finish with a woven design in champagne, Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), 2GB of DDR3 memory, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225 GPU, HP Webcam with integrated microphone, Altec Lansing speakers and an 11.6" LED display with a 1366x768 screen resolution. The machine weighs 3.24 pounds and measures 11.4 inches (l) x 8.03 inches (d) x 0.78-1.20 inches (h).

What makes this machine unique is the global roaming capabilities. Not only can it connect to Verizon's CDMA 3G network, but it has a SIM card installed to roam on GSM networks internationally. It's the first HP "global" netbook to be sold by Verizon. The data plan prices aren't cheap, but that's the price you pay for such flexibility. Also, this machine is around $500+ on the open market, but Verizon's offering it for just under $200 on a 2-year contract.
